One Year in and We’re Not Stopping

We are finally here. This is a post that I have been looking forward to for a very very long time! We have OFFICALLY been in our home for 1 whole year! We moved into this house just 5 short days before Christmas with no time to decorate. I could not wait to decorate for Christmas this year! Over the past year we have accomplished so much. I am so proud of all of the progress we have made. This house is feeling more and more like a home with each project completion. So without further ado, I give you a side by side comparison of what our house looks like today compared to what it looked like when we first purchased the home. Check out the 35 home renovation accomplishments we made in one year!

Exterior

The exterior of home is 360° brick, top to bottom. I wasn’t a fan of red brick and we chose to go with a white paint for our entire home. This is probably one of the biggest home renovation accomplishments of all! I then painted the front and side basement door black and we removed the navy blue shutters. In the rear, we added around 350 linear feet of fencing. And we built 2 small animal pens for our pot-belly pig.

Living Room

Our living room has definitely changed over the past year! We removed the large industrial fan and chose to go with a more farmhousey round chandelier, painted the furthest wall grey. Then worked on the fireplace, and built a hearth, adhered stone from floor to ceiling, and finished it off with a wood mantle and new tv mount.

Kitchen

I would have to say our kitchen has seen the most dramatic change of all on the main floor! This is probably the room with the most home renovation accomplishments! We scrapped the popcorn off the ceilings and swapped the single light fixture for 3 individual pendant lights. We also swapped the brushed nickel track lighting for a recessed light. Then we added shiplap to the front of the island and a diagonal wood detail with framing to either side. We painted the island grey, swapped all the hardware in the kitchen, and added a matte black faucet. We also gave the walls a fresh coat of grey paint over the navy blue that was there.

Dining Room

Although we haven’t done a ton in the dining room, what we have chosen to do has made a big impact. We swapped out the brushed nickel light fixture for a more farmhouse style matte black one. We also hung our industrial pipe and picture frames.

Girls’ Hallway

The girls hallway saw some changes this year too. 3 of the 4 walls got a fresh coat of grey paint. We scrapped the popcorn ceilings and swapped out the light fixtures for some recessed lighting. We finished it off with a special personalized gallery wall containing birth photos and clocks showing our daughters’ times of birth.

Girls’ Bathroom

Our girls bathroom saw a dramatic transformation this year. A chair rail was added to one wall and a fresh coat of pink paint was given from the chair rail up and to the other 3 walls. The vanity was painted the same color grey as the kitchen island, new pulls were added, along with a new counter top and faucet. Subway tile backsplash was put up to finish the vanity. A new barn light fixture was installed and to compliment it, a new antique mirror was hung. Peel and stick flooring was laid atop the tile to finish off the room giving it a completely fresh look!

Girls Bedrooms

The girls rooms saw a few small changes this year as well! We hung new chandeliers in both rooms and my oldest daughter got a new coat of pink paint from her chair rail up.

Master Bedroom

Our master bedroom and closet got some love this year. We opted for a bold charcoal grey paint for the walls and hung a beautiful matte black chandelier in lieu of a fan. In the closet, we removed the fluorescent light and replaced it with a recessed light. We also painted the same grey as the hallways and kitchen

Master Bathroom

Although we were unable to make large changes in the master bathroom this year, I did get around to painting the vanity the same grey as the island and the girls vanity! I also added some new matte black pulls.

Laundry Room

The laundry room had it’s own small makeover where the door and frame were removed and replaced with a sliding barn door. The popcorn was removed from the ceiling and a new coat of grey paint was given to the walls. The cabinets got some new hardware. I also worked on the hallway just outside of the laundry room. I scrapped the popcorn ceilings here, replaced the fixture with a recessed light, and paint the walls grey. This project is not 100% complete yet. We do still need to finish framing the doorway and I would like to do something with the flooring in here.

Basement

The basement was the largest reno project we’ve ever tackled on our own! It is one of those spaces that although we got a ton done it doesn’t seem like there were many home renovation accomplishments here. I promise you there were! It is still a work in progress but we plan to finish it up this year!

So far we removed the non-loadbearing walls, this combined a living space with 2 closets and a bedroom to create one large space. We also fixed a water leak and removed all of the carpet and the commercial-style drop ceiling in this space! For Christmas, We renovated a small playhouse for our girls and placed that in our play room. We also designated a guest room and decorated accordingly. The guest bathroom was in need of a facelift and received a new coat of paint, new cabinet pulls, and a new towel bar. We rewired the main living space with recessed lights and added a single pendant light over our beautiful whiskey barrel table.
