    Basement Ceiling Demo

It has officially begun! Today was Day 1 of basement ceiling demolition and I must say in pretty pleased with the progress! This is where our basement started! We began removing the panels and here is how far we got during nap time. Just by removing the ugly office panels we gained about a foot in ceiling space(except for the duct work) and even found an additional air vent that was apparently blowing air into the ceiling! We’ve got some really cool plans for the space but we can’t reveal them just yet! Stay tuned!

    We built a pig pen!

The other day, I posted about our fence that we built ourselves! Today I’d like to show you the pig pen that came immediately after! Once we had the whole fence up and both gates were secured we moved on to the pig pen. We went with 2 large pens that are 16′ x 16′ each. We put a gate on each pen and a gate between the 2. The goal here was to give Wilbur(our potbelly pig) the whole space for now with the option to add another pig later on and be able to separate and slowly introduce them to make sure everyone gets along! The process here…

    We built a fence!

When we bought our home, one of the things I loved most was the land. Our home is situated on almost 6 acres and although most of it is wooded, we have decent sized backyard. The only downfall was that there was no fence yet. With 3 dogs at the time we knew we’d have to get a fence up ASAP. We bought a 10×10 dog kennel as a temporary safe place for the pig to be but we knew he needed his own pen. When we added a 4th mutt to the mix I started calling around for quotes. We needed around 375 linear feet of fencing and we…

    Kitchen Faucet Upgrade

I’ve always been a big believer that small changes can make dramatic differences. When we first bought our home I knew the style wasn’t quite my taste but I knew with some creativity and vision I could get this place to where I wanted it. I could make it OUR home. If you’ve been follow along you’ve seen all the progress weve made so far on our kitchen including our kitchen island makeover. I was so in love with all the farmhouse charm we had added with the lights, cabinet pulls, and wood detailing and paint, but it still felt like it was missing something. This brushed nickel faucet was…

    Popcorn No More

Popcorn ceilings. I loathe them. They create horrendous dark shadows and make rooms feel so dark and dingy and old! I made it my personal mission to hand scrape, sand, and paint our popcorn ceilings. So how’s it going you may wonder? Take a look! So far I under took the hallway that leads to the girls bedrooms and the area in front of the coat closet. I also did the hallway in front of the laundry room and most recently tackled my biggest room yet, the kitchen! Was it worth it? 100% yes. Is this labor intensive? 100% yes. I will not sugar coat the process. It is messy…

    We Painted Our Brick House

We did it! We took the leap and painted our brick house white! I still can not believe it! While this is NOT the finished product, I could not wait to share it with everyone! This is our home pre-paint! And this is our home after! I love it so much! We used Behr Elastomeric Paint. It applied so evenly and smoothly with the paint sprayer. We were really impressed! Painting the entire front took one day but, we did begin prepping the night before. First, we removed the shutters. Just by completing this step I felt a huge shift. I felt like the deep red of the brick with…

    Girls Bathroom Part 3

Back again with the girls bathroom! We are finally in the home stretch. The next thing I focused on was the subway tile backsplash. For the back portion of the tiling I used a tile mat. To use a tile mat you simply remove the paper backing and place it on the wall. Then remove the paper on the front and stick the tiles directly on the mat. Then you grout and your project is complete. For the side wall I went with a more traditional mortar process then grouted when cured. This took just over half an hour to lay the tiles and under an hour to grout. Disclaimer:…

    Girls Bathroom Part 2

Hello again! Today we continue on the girls bathroom reno! For the next part of the bathroom budget remodel, I focused on the flooring and mirror. If you remember from my previous post, this is what we started with. Disclaimer: In order to continually bring you the best DIYs I can, I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post at no cost to you! Thanks for being here supporting Big Brick Beauty! It may be hard to see in that photo but the tile has an almost salmon pink hue to it! Super outdated. And we had a typical builder-grade frameless mirror. It lacked style and character.…

    Master Bedroom

The master bedroom. It’s supposed to be a calm, tranquil place where you sit back and relax. Kick your feet up after a long days work. But our space. Definitely not tranquil. Or welcoming. Or calming. This is how the previous owner set up the room. Notice the bed against the window? We have beautiful (almost) floor to ceiling windows that span (almost) the entire length of that wall! I wanted to capitalize on them and take in all the natural light we could! So we placed our bed on the other wall. However, even with some new furniture placement we knew the room needed something. It was seriously lacking.…

    Girls Hall Wall

This was one of our first small projects and it is definitely one of my favorite ones! Our girls have a hallway that connects both rooms so I wanted to do something special. We started with a boring blank wall! I used my silhouette Cameo 3 to cut a vinyl decal that said “In these moments, time stood still…” Then purchased the clocks at Christmas Tree Shops and set them to the time the girls were born. To complete this project, I purchased these BEAUTIFUL framed photos from Smallwoods. The quality of these frames is astounding and at such reasonable prices! I love walking by this wall everyday now!
