Our Dog Inspired Master Bedroom Makeover

We finally took a much needed leap in our master! Now, I’d love to say it’s because I’m spontaneous like that or because I just love making content or even because it was the next project on the to do list (and everyone knows how much I like checking things off my to do list). This master bedroom makeover was so lovingly inspired by our pup! This handsome fella is Beast!

Beast- Great Pyrenees

He is a sweet 2 year old Great Pyrenees and he was the daddy to our last litter of puppies! He is normally a sweet well-behaved little boy who is silly and playful but calm and well mannered. Until we decided to go on vacation and he rebelled by giving his sitter(so thankful for our family) this little surprise.

Where The Master Bedroom Makeover Began

Destroyed Carpet

We laughed and continued on with our vacation and knew we’d take care of it when we got home. So the second we got home the hunt began for a beautiful but reasonably-priced LVP floor. We wanted something that would complement what we already had throughout the main floor but didn’t necessarily have to match. We found the perfect option for us at Floor and Decor! At $1.58/sq-ft the price was super budget friendly and the quality was amazing! It is a water-resistant LVP that can be used in any room of the house. (Spoiler-alert: we used it somewhere else so stay tuned for that reveal!) So this is where the project began!

New flooring acclimating

Popcorn Removal

We got all the furniture out and acclimated the flooring for 48 hours. I’ve been slowly removing the popcorn ceilings in our home room by room. I completed the kitchen, all 3 hallways and the laundry room. I am all too familiar with the mess this creates and figured it was easiest to do this now when I could let it fall to the carpet then haul the messy carpet to the dump. So I started the makeover by scraping the ceiling!

Once done, we ripped the carpet out.

Ceiling Paint

I took the next day to paint 2 coats of white paint on the ceiling. Pictures don’t do it justice but I can’t believe how much this updated the look!

Flooring Installation

Then we were ready to start installing the flooring. We opted to keep the baseboards and install quarter round when the floor was finished. So we started right away carefully following the manufacturers installation instructions. We used an underlayment first running the opposite direction we would install the flooring. Then started on the first row interlocking each plank as we went along. We purchased a vinyl flooring installation kit that came with spacers to insure the spacing was the same along the perimeter to allow for expansion.

When the room was finished we began working on the closet.

And then we ran out of flooring.

Quarter Round Installation

So. Close. Yet so far. So we stopped for the night and the hubby went back to Floor and Decor the next day to grab 2 more boxes of flooring! We finished up laying the final planks that night and I began working on the quarter round the next day.

Then, I caulked all around then painted the baseboards and quarter round and we were finally ready to move the furniture back in!

So much better! We couldn’t be more pleased with the final result! There are lots more decor plans, goals, and dreams for this room but having this solid foundation to start on makes all the difference in the world!
